ENG 101 Library Research Scholarship

The English 101 Library Research Scholarship for Research projects completed in ENG 101: Foundations of Writing and Rhetoric that reflect exemplary use of library services and resources. Recipients must be first- or second-year students, who completed English 101 within the last 12 months with an instructor at Minnesota State University, Mankato or through an Minnesota State University, Mankato Concurrent Enrollment instructor. Recipients must have at least two semesters left of coursework and may only receive the award once.

Library services and resources discussed in your writer’s memo or reflection should include one or more of the following and describe what you learned from using Library Services:

  • PEOPLE: Conversations about your research with a librarian at the reference desk, in a research appointment, or in a class sessionsf with a librarian.
  • COLLECTIONS: Resources you accessed through a library database or in the library building (e.g. scholarly articles, historical documents, videos, books)
  • SPACES: Quiet and social study spaces
  • TECHNOLOGY: The ENG 101 Library Guide, ENG 101 Library Tutorial, library computers (used in the library or checked out for use remotely), other equipment

The reflection can be one of the following:

  • A written, 250-500 word, one- to two-page double-spaced document
  • An original visual and artist statement. The artist’s statement should be approximately 125-250 words
  • A two-minute edited video

  2. ENG 101 Instructor Name and Semester you took ENG 101 (ex. Nelson, Fall 2020)
  3. Upload your completed ENG 101 Research Paper/Assignment. This project should have been completed within the past 12 months with an instructor at Minnesota State University, Mankato or through an Minnesota State University, Mankato Concurrent Enrollment instructor.
  4. Write a brief, one- to two-sentence description of the assignment and the requirements for the assignment (number of sources, number of pages).
  5. Upload a writer’s reflection describing how the library supported your research for this project and what you learned from using Library Services. If this was a group project, please describe your individual contributions to the project and use of Library Services resources in your reflection.
