Speech & Debate Team Talent Grant

Incoming first-year students and first-year transfer students will be considered based on four criteria:

  1. Previous participation in competitive speech and/or debate activities (required);
  2. Commitment to active participation and competitive excellence in speech & debate at Minnesota State University, Mankato (required);
  3. Letter of recommendation from a former coach (required);
  4. Performance abilities demonstrated through a recorded video upload (required).

As a recipient of a Speech & Debate Team Talent Grant, you must participate on the MNSU Speech & Debate Team during your full first year. Talent Grant recipients are required to enroll in CMST 220 Speech and Debate Practicum, attend weekly team meetings & worknights, individual and team coaching sessions, compete in at least 3 different events (2 of which must be prepared in fall semester), and travel to at least 3 tournaments each semester.
