Speech & Debate Team Talent Grant

Incoming first-year students and first-year transfer students will be considered based on four criteria:

  1. Previous participation in competitive speech and/or debate activities or some similar presentation experience (required);
  2. Commitment to active participation and competitive excellence in speech & debate at Minnesota State University, Mankato (required);
  3. Demonstrated leadership as evidenced by a letter of recommendation from a coach (preferred, not required);
  4. Performance abilities demonstrated through a recorded video upload (preferred, not required).

In accepting the Speech & Debate Team Talent Grant, you agree to:

-Maintain a 2.75-3.0 GPA (regular grade checks required)
-Register for 0-4 credits of COMM 220
-Participate on the team for your* full* first year
-Attend all weekly team meetings and team coaching (Mondays 4-5:15; 6-8 pm)
-Maintain regular individual coaching each week (~1 hr/event)
-Attend at least 1 social event/month + get involved with planning events in spring
-Help plan and compete at the Larry Schnoor Invitational/Alumni Tournament in October
