Evelyn Tischer and James Tischer Honors Program Scholarship

The Evelyn Tischer and James Tischer Honors Program Scholarship at Minnesota State University, Mankato is designed to support an Honors Program student with leadership traits and drive to succeed, and who has faced adversity as well as who demonstrates financial need.

Scholarship Details:
The scholarship will be awarded to one current first-year student in the Honors Program. The scholarship will provide funds for the student’s sophomore, junior and senior years at Minnesota State University, Mankato, $8,000 per year. In addition, the student will receive $6,000 upon graduation, totaling $30,000.

Qualifications:
Honors Program students in good standing* in the program and in their first-year of college are eligible to apply. The scholarship will be awarded to one Honors Program student based on the following criteria:

1. Leadership Traits and Experience:
a. Has taken on leadership roles in activities, e.g., in clubs, organizations, teams, or employment.
b. Is involved on campus and in the community volunteering or doing service.
c. Has special achievements for which they have been recognized, either in high school or in college.

2. Student has special drive and goals to succeed and to make a difference now and in the future.

3. Demonstrated ability to overcome adversity.

4. Has financial need.

*To be in good standing in the Honors Program, a student must a) take an honors class or a language class once per year, b) submit a learning plan in the fall, c) meet with their honors advisor during fall advising, d) update and submit their electronic portfolio for annual review in May, and d) maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
