Bruce Gordon was a 1970 History graduate from Mankato State University. He was a lifelong learner and obtained two additional Master’s degrees from Portland State University. Bruce was also fluent in numerous languages including Spanish, French, and German.

Bruce and Richard Bliss met while attending Mankato State. They lived together for three years in McElroy dorms and created a lifelong friendship. Bruce lived in Portland, Oregon for most of his life while Richard lived in the metro area of Minnesota however, both were avid readers and book collectors, owning tens of thousands of books between the two of them.

Richard Bliss established this scholarship in honor and memory of his good friend Bruce. Because of the passion they both hold towards learning and dedication to education, this scholarship will support students in the Department of History.
