Rev Barbara Jackman
I received a BS degree in History (1971) followed by an MS in Media/Library Science (1979) both from MSU. After graduation, I had wonderful fun filled years teaching high school history and serving as a librarian in high schools, colleges and a seminary for approx. 20 years. I then went back to school to receive a MS counseling/family studies degree emphasizing death, grief, abuse issues from UW Stout. I began serving with a hospice program in Menominee, WI, that was followed by an Mdiv from Eden Seminary in St Louis, ordination and endorsement as a UCC, United Church of Christ, pastor/chaplain. I always loved being in school, researching, writing, learning, and thoroughly enjoyed all my careers. I spent over 20 incredible joyous fulfilling years as chaplain serving in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, and parishes throughout the Midwest, all the while being spiritually sustained by the arts, theatre, music, and dance. Since retiring from Mayo Health System as Chaplain in 2006 and from parish ministry in 2017, I have been enjoying retirement in Mankato with my two cats, traveling now and then, and attending the Des Moines Metro Opera Festival in Iowa each summer, located in charming Indianola. I have also been involved locally with VINE and LifeLong Learners and always try to attend as many MSU productions as possible which continue to inspire and fill my spirit with joy and hope. As I watched and listened to the students who have such apparent passion in sharing their gifted talents, I was moved to provide support in the form of scholarships.
