Social Work Alumni & Faculty Scholarship

Applicants must be admitted to the Social Work BSSW or MSW programs.

Four awards are granted to BSSW students and four to MSW students.

This scholarship is given to social work students with demonstrated commitment to upholding the core social work value of social justice and the ethical principle of challenging social injustices. Preference is given to students who demonstrate engagement in social change efforts with and on behalf of oppressed individuals and groups of people and focused on issues of poverty, discrimination, and violence.

  1. Upload a formal letter (not more than two pages in length), that addresses all of the following areas, with emphasis on the description of your commitment to social justice AND future plans: 1. A description of your academic abilities and achievements, including GPA, academic honors, and achievements in social work or related courses. 2. A description of your commitment to upholding the core social work value of social justice and the ethical principle of challenging social injustices, including specific examples of your engagement in social change efforts with and on behalf of oppressed individuals and groups of people and focused on issues of poverty, discrimination, and violence. 3. A statement of your professional goals or career plans as a generalist or advanced generalist social worker AND how you will incorporate social justice work into your practice. 4. A statement of your financial need and current financial support (e.g., federal financial aid, university assistantships, or other scholarships. 5. A statement of your status in the BSSW major OR MSW program. This scholarship application process is competitive. Please be detailed in addressing the eligibility criteria, including providing specific examples of promoting social justice and engaging in social change focused on issues of poverty, discrimination, and/or violence. Reviewers evaluate both the content and quality of your written submission.
