Brian Sether Memorial Scholarship (Endowed)

The Brian Sether Memorial Scholarship will be given to a faculty-nominated English, Communication Studies, or Interdisciplinary Studies major with interdisciplinary and community interests who demonstrates financial need. To qualify, a candidate must be a junior or senior.

A candidate must submit a letter of no more than two pages addressing (a) his/her interdisciplinary community interests and (b) provide a statement of her/her aspirations and how the award would facilitate reaching them.
The selected candidate will demonstrate similar qualities as Brian Sether. Brian’s performance in class demonstrated his passion for literature. He was a risk-taker. This was obvious by the way he lived and by the way he expressed his thoughts in discussion and in creative and analytical writing. He challenged himself and those around him to think. He had a natural aptitude for writing and is remembered for his poetry. Like so many students, Brian was always struggling and worked a variety of jobs to get by financially. But perhaps most compelling were Brian’s gentleness, his intelligence, and his sense of humor.
