Bert E. Burns Geography Scholarship

The Bert E. Burns Geography Scholarship is established to honor Dr. Burns for his dedication to geography education and his service as a teacher, colleague, and chairperson in the Department of Geography. Dr. Burns began teaching in the Geography Department in 1950, served as chairperson from 1964-74 and retired in 1977. He was a firm believer in geography field studies, an interest that extended to him leading community and geography-oriented tours for several organizations. He was, in fact, well-known for his informative and entertaining tour narratives.

Who is eligible: The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student or students majoring in Geography who demonstrate academic achievement and activity in community service.
